My First Day!
So I woke up at 6:40am for my first day as an intern. i ate a bowl of raisin bran for breakfast and tumbled into my spiffy work clothes. i wore a pair of comfy shoes for my 10 minute walk to the metro station, and then prepared to get on the rail. stupid me bought a one-day pass, but when i tried to get through the turnstile my card was denied. turns out the one-day pass is only valid after peak morning hours, after 9:30am. so the station manager had to help me out and let me through the emergency gate. theeeeeeeeeeen, i saw that my train was coming to the platform so i ran to catch it. turns out i took the wrong train, and i was freaking out. fortunately the last stop on the train i was on was only two stops away from my final destination, so i just got off and waited for the one i was supposed to get on. somehow i still managed to arrive at the building on time, 8:30am sharp. then for the rest of the day i worked on this computer that kept crashing so i had to save my excel file every five seconds. i made this awesome little spreadsheet for my supervisor and spent the day going through her files to sort out information on asian pacific american heritage month. i actually like doing this sort of stuff, reminds me of business computer information science (BCIS) at bellaire...go slackers! then i met up with tina weena for lunch in the cafeteria where we both nibbled on our packed lunches (reminiscent of middle school days :)) and caught up. my lunch baggie consisted of baby carrot sticks, a sandwich consisting of wheat bread, turkey, mozzarella cheese and ranch dressing, and a fuji apple. man, with all this walking and eating tiny meals because of a tiny budget, i think i'm gonna lose some weight here.... not that that was my plan or anything. time at work flew by pretty quickly, and then tina and i headed back to gwu campus to catch dinner with michael windle, and a couple of his friends and friends of friends at a nearby pub (cheap pizza, score!). now i'm at home and i get to wake up "later" because i have a meeting tomorrow from 9:30-3:00pm at the washington d.c. dhhs building -- which is waaay closer to my dorm than MARYland.
gosh, i feel like this is my personal blog about interning -- has everyone else died from working? what's the dealio?
